About Amata

There is a reason you are here

You have tried everything you know how to do but still feel depressed, anxious, and overwhelmed.

Old behaviors continue and they are impacting your relationships and day-to-day life.

You want to be free from your past but don’t know how to let go and move on.

I am here to help

I’m Amata Albero, LMFT, and I’m so glad you are here.

Reaching out for help is the hardest first step.

I know your struggle is real, and I will work with you to develop a deeper understanding of what is keeping you from living the life you want.

The process of inner work

I believe that inner work is not only a psychological and emotional process, but it is also a spiritual one.

I use a transpersonal approach in my work with clients. This type of therapy takes a more holistic approach, addressing all aspects of a person (mental, physical, spiritual, social, and emotional) with an emphasis on the role of a healthy spirit in healing.

While I see and work with many different specialties, here are some I most frequently work:

  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Teens and Young Adults
  • Grief and Loss
  • Spirituality
  • Parenting
  • Post-Partum Depression
  • Divorce
  • LGBTQ
  • Sexuality
  • Workshops and Groups
  • Play Therapy
  • Therapy for men

My education and roots

I was born and raised in Italy. While growing up, I always knew that the United States would eventually become my home. After earning two bachelor’s degrees at the University of Bologna, Italy (one was in literature and the other in cultural anthropology), I moved to California and initially settled in San Francisco.

For the next several years, I worked to complete two master’s degrees. The first one was an M.A. in East-West Psychology, followed by an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy. A high point in my graduate education was being part of research that aimed at exploring the integration between indigenous healing technologies with Western psychology.

When I’m not being a therapist . . .

When I’m not working, I like doing anything that connects with nature. I love to go on hikes, swim at the river, or soak at the hot springs.

I dedicate much of my time to family and community life and being a mom to my 11-year-old.

In addition, I’m a very spiritual person – I meditate regularly and do other spiritual practices.
